About Dilworth
Dilworth opened in May 1891 as Charlotte’s first suburb, two days after Edward Dilworth Latta’s first electric streetcar ran out to it. Latta Park, at the end of the line, once had a dance pavilion, a boating pond and a Ferris wheel to bring weekend riders out. In 1911 the Olmsted firm added the winding Dilworth Road and its curving side streets.
Most homes are bungalows, with Queen Anne houses and larger Colonial Revivals along Dilworth Road. Streets have mature oaks, sidewalks and deep front porches. Dilworth was listed on the National Register in 1987 and is also a City of Charlotte local historic district.
